8kms from the Raglan Township, Whale Bay is home to a small village area located at the foothills of Mount Karioi, surrounded by world famous surf breaks & stunning native bush. Sleeping Lady Lodgings provides luxury or budget accommomdation, a spectacular wedding venue with panoramic views, a unique rustic reception venue plus an accommodation and reception venue under one roof at the Karioi Lodge.

We can provide accommodation and catering for both small and large groups of up to 100 people (please check with us if you have up to 150 people as we may still be able to help you). Services offered are very flexible for instance choose between cooking as a group in a self-contained kitchen or have all your meals catered for, sleep in luxury or share facility accommodation, conduct a meeting indoors or out, experience the adrenalin of a surf lesson or tramping the mountain as part of a team-building mission or enjoy the relaxation of a massage or beauty therapy session pre hens night antics. We can tailor a package to suit your requirements. One assurance is our unique setting, excellent service and value for money!

KITCHENS & CATERING... For any venue we can provide excellent onsite catering or you may wish to have your own catering sourced. Althernatively all Sleeping Lady Lodges have fully self-contained kitchens. The Karioi Lodge amenities which would suit large groups include two fully equipped kitchens one of which is purpose built for large groups. There is also the option for onsite catering. We can provide excellent catering for all types of occassions be it a lunch for a tramping group, morning & afternoon tea for a corporate meeting, a gourmet dinner with dessert for a wedding party or teaching students of a school group how to make pizzas (menus available on request).

ACCOMMODATION... The luxury lodges of Sleeping lady can sleep up to 30 people in total - all are within short walking distance of each other & everything is provided for the guests in the way of bed and bathroom linens. In addition the Karioi Lodge sleeps up to 75 people. At the Karioi Lodge, there are 4 separate blocks of accommodation each with 5 rooms. 3 blocks are set up dorm style with 4 bunks per room. The other block of 5 rooms are double/private rooms. Groups can be placed in seperate blocks or blocks close together to suit. All bedding linen & pillows are supplied. Towels can also be supplied.

SPECIAL OCCASSION OUTDOOR VENUE... Sleeping Lady Lodgings has recently landscaped a lookout point complete with large round deck/platform plus tiered seating that would make a spectacular venue for any special occassion ceremony. Already we have hosted successful weddings & other special occassions here with the reception been held only a few minutes walk away at the Karioi Lodge.

CONFERENCE & MEETING VENUE... Over the years Sleeping Lady Lodgings has hosted many corporate meetings & conferences, especially at the Karioi Lodge. There are several options in terms of meeting venues.. one of the most unique & popular is in the rustic barn which is private & tranquil & set amongst the native bush just up from the main lodge at Karioi. The main hall at Karioi lodge can also work well for groups. For smaller groups we usually set up one of the luxury lodges as a meeting area for privacy & stunning views. Whatever is needed we'll work with you to meet your equipment, entertainment & catering requirements.

KARIOI LODGE FACILITIES & ACTIVITIES... Groups booked with any of our luxury lodges can still enjoy a large adventure playground at the Karioi Lodge with adrenalin zip-line (aka flying fox), ropes course, mountain bikes, bush walks, spectacular look outs, permaculture gardens, glowworms & steamy saunas. Broadband Internet pool table, dart board, air soccer, basketball & table tennis are available for guests to use.

TRAMPING, SURFING & TEAMBUILDING... With direct access to Mount Karioi tramps & as the home of the Raglan Surf School Sleeping Lady Lodgings often host groups that are wanting a fun day or weekend learning to surf or tramping the mountain. For the surfing lessons we provide all instruction, equipment & whatever else is needed such as volleyball & lunch at the beach. Surf Equipment Hire is available for groups who don't need a lesson & supervision. Transport is available for pick ups & drop offs to other local tracks. Enjoy the evening sauna back at the Karioi Lodge after a day of adventuring or head back to one of the luxury lodges for a private spa!

RAGLAN ACTIVITIES: There are lots of exciting things to do in Raglan for groups and if you're a guest of Sleeping Lady Lodgings we can help to arrange an itinerary for you free of charge. Try your hand at sunset kayaking, harbour cruising to see the limestone formations, horse trekking to Bridal Veil Falls or along a remote West Coast beach. For the group that needs pampering rather than adrenalin, there's on-site massage & beauty therapy.

SCHOOL GROUPS... The Karioi Lodge was initially built in 1973 as a school camp by the Huntly Karioi Trust. Years later & it still retains the essential characteristics that make an ideal school group venue. There are ample opportunities for fun & adventure & outdoor activities for kids here! The flying fox, ropes course, daily beginner surf lessons, sports barn, bush walks, and wildlife viewing make outdoor entertainment a breeze for school groups. Choose from full catering options or self-catering in two fully equipped kitchens. Students can even learn to make meals with our head chef. OSH risk management plans are available on request.
